Pins and Beetles
Thought we'd share some process photos. Alex will be working with this beautiful Acrocinus longimanus from Peru.
Fresh out of the box:
After a nice bath to lossen him up he is ready for his acupuncture session: (are you feeling relaxed?)
Just chillin' for a moment in the warm Seattle sun...erh by sun I mean not rain.
The body length of this Acrocinus longimanus 6-7 cms, but with legs outstretched he is a monster 15.8cm (6.25 inches).

"You're some sort of big, fat, smart-bug, aren't you?"
Soooooo Happy! New shiny beetles in today's mail. We tried a new source this time and were really surprised at the quality and the speed of delivery. Cant wait to start making stuff!!
Here is a sampling:
...and Alex is especially beaming, he finally got his Acrocinus longimanus (the big harlequin beetle).
Happy day!

In The Works
Out shopping for more vintage finds last week we stumbled across this wonderful old lantern. It will be ambitious but we are going to mount a beetle inside and use some fiber optics to light it.
In all it's glory.
Taken apart for its first cleaning.
So far its cleaning up nicely. But I'm sure this project will present some unique challenges. Will keep everyone posted as to how it is working out...hopefully we can have it all sorted before Seattle's SteamCon II.
If you have any ideas feel free to share either here or on facebook.

And yes I was serious about the sword...
Every year in August we get to see our great friends whom we love, Brady and Jen Huffer (shameless promotion here http://ageofchivalry.com/) and buy wonderful weapons (rubs hands greedily and inserts evil laugh). This year was no exception and Alex picked out this gorgeous shiny...
(until Alex can shoot some photos of his own I borrowed these from (http://www.christianfletcher.com)

Wow - August! What a crazy busy month with camping and faires and sword buying and art walks and sunshine. But we have managed to spend some time in the studio creating as well.
